Terravista returned to winning form in his first-up assignment a fortnight ago and leads the list of thirteen 2017 Challenge Stakes nominations.

Terravista has been the stable star for Joe Pride since he made his competitive debut during the autumn of 2013 and has subsequently posted a commendable career record of eleven wins and six minors, through twenty-five appearances.

Breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the 2014 edition of the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m), the Captain Rio gelding was unlucky not to salute several times after the famed success, but returned to winning form in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) in the spring of 2015.

Unable to post a win in 2016, Terravista was rated only an outside chance in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) first-up this time, but completed a perfectly-timed run to beat Spieth in a photo finish.

Pride is set to launch a three-pronged effort in the featured sprint after also including Ball Of Muscle and Kentucky Miss in 2017 Challenge Stakes nominations.

Group 1 winner English is yet to be seen at the races in 2017, but is set to make her return at Randwick on Saturday after being included in Challenge Stakes nominations.

English was a standout for Gai Waterhouse as a two-year-old in 2015; winning the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) and finishing second behind stable mate Vancouver in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) most notably.

The daughter of Encosta De Lago resumed last autumn for a commendable win in the Challenge Stakes and while unable to match the late pace when sixth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), mustered a big turn of foot to finish third in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Day 1 of The Championships.

Capping the excellent preparation with a smart win over Black Heart Bart in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), English failed to come up in spring and was last seen finishing eleventh of twelve in the Darley Classic.

The 2017 Challenge Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
