Hay List will take part in a fitness test at Warwick Farm Racecourse prior to his run in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes this Saturday March 16, 2013.
The seven-year-old’s hoof will be under scrutiny upon his long awaited return to the race track.
While his most recent injury has been localized to his hoof, Hay List has also been sidelines with a knee issue and a near fatal bout of colic during 2012.
Hay List proved to trained John McNair he was ready to return to racing after his impressive track work earlier today, however, a thorough pre-race inspection will still go ahead.
Greg Rudolph, the deputy chief steward, does not predict Hay List will encounter any problems on his way to the starting line of the 2013 Challenge Stakes.
“John has told us he is very happy with the horse’s work and having come this far he’s not going to take any chances with him,” Rudolph said.
“If for some reason Hay List is not one hundred per cent right, he’s not going to risk him.”
The deputy steward revealed that Hay List was likely to have his shoeing trained prior to the 2013 Challenge Stakes.
“Quite often he’s prone to changing the horse’s plating the day prior to a race, depending on track conditions and so on,” he said.
Hay List has won 15 of his 23 race starts and has earned more than $2.54 million in prize money during his horse racing career.
